Memorial Bike Ride Honors Alex Preddy, Minneapolis ICU Nurse Killed by ICE

Mourners continue to gather in Minneapolis to honor the life of Alex Preddy, an ICU nurse and avid cyclist who was fatally shot by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On Wednesday night, thousands of cyclists came together for a memorial ride that began at Washburn Park and stretched roughly nine miles to Preddy’s memorial on Nicollet Avenue, where he was killed. Along the way, participants wore bright yellow safety vests reading “peaceful observer, don’t shoot,” a message organizers said was meant to counter rhetoric and emphasize nonviolent protest.

The ride was organized by Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop, where Preddy was a customer. What started locally has since grown into a global movement, with additional memorial rides planned in cities across the United States and several European countries.

Cyclists also stopped to pay respects at the memorial for Rene Good before ending at the VA hospital, where Preddy cared for veterans as an ICU nurse.

Members of the cycling community described the gathering as a moment of unity, love, and peaceful protest. One organizer said the goal was to bring neighbors together and encourage people to look past political differences.

Boxes of donated safety vests were distributed at Washburn Fair Oaks Park, funded through community donations and local business support. Participants said they hope the visibility of the ride helps spark broader conversations about accountability and compassion.

Organizers emphasized that the memorial rides are about standing together peacefully and honoring a life dedicated to helping others.
