Palm Springs Marks Black History Month With Flag Raising at City Hall on Sunday, Feb. 1
Sunday, Feb. 1 marked the official start of Black History Month, and the Palm Springs recognized the occasion with a special flag raising ceremony at Palm Springs City Hall.
City leaders and community members gathered to raise the city’s Black History Month flag, honoring the significance of the month and celebrating the contributions African Americans have made to Palm Springs and across the nation.
Speakers at the ceremony emphasized that Black history is American history, encouraging residents and visitors alike to take part in the month’s celebrations and learn more about the rich culture and lasting impact of African Americans.
“This isn’t history that came from somewhere else,” one participant shared. “It started right here in the United States of America. This is for everyone. It’s not just for one group of people—it’s for all of us.”
The flag is now on display at City Hall, located across the street from Palm Springs International Airport on East Tahquitz Canyon Way.
City officials say Black History Month serves as an opportunity for the entire community to reflect, celebrate, and engage with local history while honoring those whose contributions continue to shape Palm Springs today.
