King City Kindergartener Surprised as Marine Dad Returns Home After 7-Month Deployment
A heartwarming moment played out Friday in King City, where a kindergarten student was surprised with something he’d been waiting months for — his dad coming home from deployment.
Officials at King City Arts and Magnet School helped arrange the reunion, bringing Joey outside the school as his father, a U.S. Marine, waited nearby. In video shared by the school, Joey spots his dad from a distance and excitedly says, “I see somebody,” before breaking into a run and shouting, “My daddy!”
The emotional embrace followed quickly, with Joey jumping into his father’s arms as the Marine told his son how much he missed him. Joey’s reply was just as heartfelt — and perfectly kid-like — adding that he was happy and had already eaten pizza.
Joey’s father had just returned after a seven-month deployment. Family members, including Joey’s mother and grandmother, were also on hand to celebrate the long-awaited homecoming.
School staff say moments like these highlight the sacrifices military families make and the powerful impact of reunions after extended separations. For Joey and his family, it was a joyful reminder that homecomings are often the best surprises of all.
