Palm Springs Hotel Owner Rebuilds After Clinic Bombing While Opening Doors to Local Nonprofits
A Palm Springs business owner is turning tragedy into support for others after his boutique hotel was heavily damaged in the bombing of a downtown fertility clinic. The explosion, described by officials as an act of terrorism, caused widespread destruction in the area and left many businesses facing repairs, insurance delays, and emotional strain.
David Rios, owner of The Velvet Rope, said the blast damaged key equipment and parts of the property, including air conditioning condensers and windows, temporarily disrupting operations. Despite the setbacks, he says he feels grateful to be safe and determined to move forward.
As rebuilding efforts continue, Rios has chosen to give back to the community. He is offering space at his themed boutique hotel free of charge to local nonprofit organizations, providing them with a place to hold meetings and events during a challenging time. He says the effort is his way of supporting the same community that has supported him.
Local groups have already begun using the space. The Parkinson’s Resource Organization plans to host its annual fundraiser at the hotel, calling the gesture both generous and inspiring.
Rios says Palm Springs is more than a business location — it’s home — and helping others recover is part of the healing process. Community leaders say the act reflects the valley’s strong spirit of connection and resilience as residents continue to rebuild together.
