Friends of the Children Coachella Valley receives Social Impact Award honoring local mentorship
A local nonprofit and a dedicated volunteer were honored with a Social Impact Award during a surprise presentation at the Rapp Foundation, recognizing their meaningful work supporting children and families across the Coachella Valley.
Friends of the Children Coachella Valley, represented by Carrie Schaaf, along with volunteer Randy Florence, received the award for their ongoing commitment to mentorship and community service. Anthony Caridi of Toyota of the Desert joined the celebration, announcing a $500 donation to the organization and an additional $500 to Florence for his volunteer efforts.
Florence immediately pledged his personal award back to the nonprofit, bringing the total contribution to $1,000.
Friends of the Children Coachella Valley focuses on long-term youth mentorship, pairing children with paid professional mentors who walk alongside them for 12 years, providing consistent guidance, encouragement, and support.
“Our mentors are paid professional mentors, and we walk alongside those children for 12 years,” Schaaf shared. “We have the opportunity to change generations of families in this town.”
Florence said that mission is what inspired him to get involved.
“I think it’s fantastic that kids have the opportunity to have a mentor and a friend for such a long period of time,” he said. “I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
Organizers say the Social Impact Award highlights individuals and organizations making a lasting difference in the Valley, celebrating those who dedicate their time and energy to uplifting others.
