County Officials Dispel Claims of CBP Agent Landing at Thermal Airport

County officials say claims that Customs and Border Protection aircraft carrying 100 agents landed at Thermal Airport are unfounded.
According to the office of Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, the report was reviewed Wednesday morning after circulating within the community. The supervisor’s office confirmed with the County Aviation Division and Desert Jet, an aviation business located at the airport, that the information was incorrect.
Officials said two Department of Homeland Security aircraft did land at Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal, but the planes were carrying only mechanics and flight crew personnel. One of the aircraft is scheduled to depart later today.
Supervisor Perez’s office released the clarification to prevent unnecessary concern among residents.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Supervisor Perez’s office at 760-863-8211.
