Desert Arc Honors Community Leaders at Eighth Annual "Champions of Change" Luncheon
Desert Arc held its highly anticipated eighth annual "Champions of Change" Awards Luncheon earlier today at Agua Caliente in Rancho Mirage, celebrating community members who have made a lasting impact on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The organization honored 12 outstanding individuals and organizations for their dedication to supporting Desert Arc’s mission of creating meaningful opportunities for those it serves.
This year’s top honor, Champion of the Year, was awarded to former Palm Springs Mayor and City Councilmember Jeffrey Bernstein. Organizers recognized Bernstein for his efforts to promote inclusive employment, including helping individuals with disabilities find work at the Palm Springs International Airport.
“We were celebrating Jeffrey, who did help us employ some people with disabilities at the airport,” said Michelle Peters, president and CEO of Desert Arc. “People with disabilities are the most reliable employees. They show up every single day, they’re happy to be there, and they work hard. We’re just trying to communicate that message.”
In addition to Bernstein, Desert Arc also recognized Clients of the Year, highlighting individuals served by the organization for their achievements and perseverance.
The annual luncheon continues to serve as a platform for promoting inclusion, celebrating achievement, and strengthening community support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
