Palm Springs Art Museum Kicks Off Black History Month with Free Evening Event and Live Performance

The Palm Springs Art Museum is inviting the community to a free event this evening to officially kick off its Black History Month programming.

The celebration, titled “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” begins at 5 p.m. at the main campus of Palm Springs Art Museum.

The evening will include opening remarks from Palm Springs Mayor Naomi Soto, followed by a special performance from violinist Poetic Moore.

Museum officials say tonight’s gathering marks the start of a month-long series of weekly events designed to honor Black history, culture, and contributions through music, conversation, and community engagement. Programs will continue throughout February, offering visitors multiple opportunities to participate in the celebrations.

Organizers describe the kickoff as both reflective and forward-looking, highlighting the importance of acknowledging Black history while creating space for artistic expression and shared experiences.

Admission to tonight’s event is free, and the museum encourages residents and visitors alike to attend and take part in the broader Black History Month programming running all month long.
