Taylor Swift drops ‘Opalite’ music video with retro ’90s vibe ahead of Super Bowl weekend

Taylor Swift is giving fans a blast from the past with the release of her new music video for “Opalite,” the latest single from her album “The Life of a Showgirl.”

The superstar wrote and directed the video herself, packing it with throwback ’90s details including mall scenes, cheesy commercials, MTV-style moments and playful visual storytelling. Swift released the video just days before Super Bowl weekend, adding some lighthearted pop culture buzz ahead of the big game.

Swift said the idea for the video came together while she was promoting her album on The Graham Norton Show. During that appearance, actor Domhnall Gleeson joked about being in one of her videos — a comment that ultimately inspired Swift to invite him, along with several other guests from the show, to participate.

The video features Gleeson in a quirky storyline involving a magical “Opalite spray” that turns objects into people. At one point, a cactus transforms into Swift herself, while a pet rock becomes her on-screen best friend. Swift described the project as feeling like a “school group project, but for adults.”

“Opalite” is a love song, and Swift noted that the theme felt especially fitting given her personal connection to the gemstone. She also shared that the creative process brought unexpected friendships, fashion choices and metaphors.

Swift said she had “more fun than I ever imagined” making the video, adding that many familiar faces from her Eras Tour also appear.

The “Opalite” music video is currently available exclusively on Apple Music and Spotify Premium through February 8.
