Marjorie Taylor Greene’s feud with Trump reshapes GOP race to replace her Georgia House seat

The Republican race to replace former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is taking shape in Georgia’s deeply conservative 14th District, with her public feud with Donald Trump playing a central role in how candidates position themselves.

More than a dozen Republicans have entered the special election, triggered by Greene’s resignation mid-term. Some contenders are former local officials and party insiders, while others are political newcomers. Nearly all are emphasizing loyalty to Trump, who remains overwhelmingly popular in the district.

Several candidates told CNN that voters feel confused or betrayed by Greene’s departure, prompting campaigns to balance respect for her past work with calls for a fresh start.

Trump recently endorsed Clay Fuller, a former local district attorney who resigned his post to run. Fuller has said he plans to support Trump’s agenda and work closely with the administration if elected.

Greene has stated she will not endorse a successor.

Some candidates with ties to Greene’s office are highlighting their local roots, while distancing themselves from Washington politics. Others have been more direct in criticizing Greene, describing her style as divisive and arguing that her resignation left constituents without representation.

Political newcomers have been especially vocal, saying Greene focused more on headlines than legislative progress. A few also raised concerns about the cost of holding a special election and questioned her sudden exit after winning reelection.

Still, longtime conservative voices in the district caution that attacking Greene may backfire. Many voters continue to support her and wish she and Trump had resolved their differences.

Georgia’s 14th District remains one of the most pro-Trump areas in the country, and analysts say the primary — scheduled for March, with a potential runoff in April — will likely hinge on which candidate convinces voters they can best advance Trump’s “America First” agenda while restoring stability after Greene’s departure.
