Coachella Valley Takes Center Stage at James Beard House as Palm Desert Food & Wine Kicks Off

A major culinary honor is putting the Coachella Valley in the national spotlight. NBC Palm Springs’ Mary Strong interviewed Chef Pedro Baroso of Parker Palm Springs as he prepares for an exclusive dinner at the iconic James Beard House in New York City, an event that officially kicks off the 2026 Palm Desert Food & Wine Festival.

Chef Baroso is one of just four local chefs selected to bring the flavors of the desert to one of the most prestigious culinary stages in the country. For the highly anticipated dinner, he’s showcasing one of his signature creations: cauliflower prepared three ways, a dish that reflects both innovation and the seasonal influences of the region.

The James Beard House dinner serves as the launch event for Palm Desert Food & Wine, hosted by Palm Springs Life, which runs March 19–22 along El Paseo. The festival is a key platform for local chefs, celebrating the Coachella Valley’s growing reputation as a serious culinary destination while connecting regional talent with national audiences.

Chef Baroso, who impressed guests last year with scallops, says this year’s menu will once again highlight bold flavors and refined techniques inspired by the desert. His involvement doesn’t stop in New York—he’ll also play a major role throughout the festival back home. During Palm Desert Food & Wine, Chef Baroso will host two special events at Parker Palm Springs:

  • March 19 at Counter Reformation, offering an intimate and creative dining experience

  • March 21 at Mr. Parker, where he’ll collaborate with Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli for an unforgettable evening

The exclusive James Beard House dinner not only honors Chef Baroso’s talent but also celebrates the Coachella Valley’s unique culinary identity—placing it firmly among the nation’s top food destinations.

Palm Desert Food & Wine, hosted by Palm Springs Life, takes place March 19–22 on El Paseo, bringing top chefs and winemakers to the valley. Tickets and event information are available through Palm Desert Food & Wine.
