Palm Springs Secures $900,000 Federal Funding to Improve Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety
The Palm Springs Active Transportation Subcommittee is moving forward with plans to improve walking and biking infrastructure across the city.
During a recent meeting, members learned the city has secured $900,000 in federal funding to update and expand its pedestrian plan. The funding will build on Palm Springs’ 2021 pedestrian plan, adding new bicycle safety projects and traffic calming measures designed to improve both safety and accessibility.
Committee members raised concerns about cyclist safety along Ramon Road, as well as confusing or potentially dangerous intersections including Ballardo Road and South Palm Canyon Drive. They also highlighted missing links between neighborhoods and the CV Link pathway, noting that improving those connections is key to encouraging more residents to walk and bike.
City leaders say the goal is to address both safety and convenience, ensuring residents can comfortably reach destinations throughout the city without relying solely on vehicles.
Staff will now compile the committee’s suggestions and provide them to consultants once work begins on updating the pedestrian plan.
The subcommittee’s next meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 1 p.m., with bike parking listed as a future agenda item.
