Team USA Shuts Out Canada, American Men Shine on Olympic Ice
Team USA made history on the ice with a commanding 5-0 victory over Canada in women’s hockey.
The Americans struck early in the first period when Caroline Harvey found the back of the net just four minutes in to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead. In the second period, a reviewed play confirmed the puck had crossed the line despite a Canadian challenge for interference, extending the U.S. advantage. The Americans eventually built a 4-0 lead — the first time the U.S. has ever led Canada by four goals in Olympic play — before sealing the 5-0 shutout in the third period. It marks the first time Canada has been shut out in Olympic history.
In men’s figure skating, the United States also impressed. Maxim Naumov of Norwood, Massachusetts opened with a strong skate, scoring 85.65. Andrew Torgashev of Coral Springs, Florida followed with an 88.94. Closing out the American lineup, reigning star Ilia Malinin — known as the “Quad God” — delivered a high-scoring performance of 108.16 to finish the short program in first place.
On the medal table, Norway leads with 12 total medals, including six gold. Italy sits in second with 11 medals, while Japan and the United States are tied with seven medals each as competition continues.
