Team USA Shuts Out Canada in Historic Women’s Hockey Win as American Skaters Shine

Team USA delivered one of the most memorable moments of the Winter Olympics on Tuesday, shutting out Canada in women’s ice hockey and making Olympic history in the process.

After a scoreless opening period, the United States struck early in the first, taking control just four minutes in. Following a faceoff win in the Canadian zone, the puck found Caroline Harvey, who skated in and fired home the opening goal to put the U.S. on the board.

The second period brought chaos in front of the net. A goal initially waved off was later confirmed after video review, with officials ruling the puck crossed the line. Canada challenged the play for interference, but the goal stood, extending the U.S. lead. Later in the period, Team USA added another score to make it 4–0 — the first time the Americans have ever held a four-goal lead over Canada in Olympic play.

By the third period, Team USA sealed a dominant 5–0 victory, handing Canada its first shutout loss in Olympic women’s hockey history.

The day also featured standout performances in men’s figure skating. Maxim Naumov of Norwood, Massachusetts opened competition for the Americans, delivering a strong skate and scoring 85.65 as his Youth Skating Academy supporters cheered him on from home.

Next up was Andrew Torgashev of Coral Springs, Florida, who impressed judges with an outstanding routine, earning a score of 88.94.

Closing out the short program for Team USA was Ilia Malinin, known as the “Quad God.” While not his strongest performance overall, Malinin still dazzled, scoring 108.16 to finish the short program in first place.

As of Tuesday evening, Norway leads the medal standings with 12 total medals, including six gold. Italy sits in second with 11 medals, while Japan and the United States are tied with seven medals each. The standings are expected to shift as competition continues.
