Ben Ogden Wins Historic Silver as Team USA Shines in Olympic Ski Events
Team USA celebrated a historic moment on the snow as New Hampshire native Ben Ogden earned silver in the men’s classic cross-country ski sprint at the Milan-Cortina Games. The medal marks the first Olympic podium finish for a U.S. man in cross-country skiing since Bill Koch won silver in 1976 — ending a 50-year drought.
Norway’s Johan Klæbo claimed gold, securing his seventh career Olympic gold medal and second of these Games. Ogden reflected on the honor of representing the United States, crediting teammates and trailblazers who helped elevate the program to compete with Scandinavian powerhouses.
Earlier this year, Ogden and teammate Gus Schumacher also made history with a third-place finish in a World Cup team sprint — another milestone for the growing U.S. program.
It was also a busy day in women’s moguls. Tess Johnson and Olivia Giaccio competed in the first final run but were unable to advance to the super final, finishing ninth and tenth respectively.
In the super final, Liz Lemley delivered a standout performance, earning top marks on her turns, tricks, and speed to take the lead with several competitors remaining. Jaelin Kauf, who advanced through a second-chance qualifying run, capitalized on her opportunity with a strong performance that earned her a second-place score.
A big day overall for Team USA on the slopes in Italy.
