Gene Autry Wind Wall Construction Completed in Palm Springs

The City of Palm Springs has officially completed construction of the Gene Autry Wind Wall, a project aimed at improving driving conditions along one of the area’s most wind-prone corridors.

The brick wall stretches approximately 590 feet and is designed to reduce blowing sand and improve visibility for motorists traveling through the area, particularly during the Coachella Valley’s notoriously windy conditions.

City council awarded the $2 million project in April of last year. Most of the funding came from Measure A, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax that supports local street maintenance and regional transportation improvements.

City officials say the new wind wall should help make travel along Gene Autry Trail safer and smoother, especially as windy season picks up across the valley.
