Henri Rivers IV Set for Olympic Debut in Men’s Slalom While Representing Jamaica
Henri Rivers IV is preparing to make his Olympic debut in the men’s alpine slalom on February 16, representing Jamaica on one of the biggest stages in winter sports.
Born and raised in New York City, Rivers is competing for Jamaica, the country of his mother’s birth. His journey to the Winter Olympics has been fueled by family support and determination, with his triplet sisters — Helaina and Henniya — traveling to Italy along with their parents to cheer him on. Both sisters were also Olympic hopefuls but narrowly missed qualifying for the Games.
Rivers says having his sisters by his side in Bormio means everything.
“It is what it is right now, but seeing that they are here with me and keeping me motivated every single day to be a better skier, a better person, I can't wait to see them supporting me on race day,” Rivers said. He added with a smile that their support might finally prove they actually like him.
Beyond his own competition, Rivers hopes his Olympic appearance inspires other young athletes.
“I want them to look at it and be inspired by what I'm doing and one day wanting to become who I am and follow that same career path — try to be an Olympian,” he said.
Rivers views this moment not as a finish line, but as the beginning of something bigger.
“This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see how far we can really take it,” he said.
