Gallup Ends Presidential Approval Polling After Nearly 90 Years

Gallup Ends Presidential Approval Polling After Nearly 90 Years

Gallup has announced it will discontinue its presidential approval and favorability tracking poll, ending the longest-running continuous effort to measure U.S. opinion of the nation's president.

The survey dates back to the late 1930s during Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency. For decades, Gallup's approval ratings have served as a benchmark for gauging presidential performance and have been widely cited in political coverage.

According to the company, the change reflects a shift in focus toward research on "issues and conditions that shape people's lives." Gallup says it will no longer publish assessments of individual political figures.

The firm will continue polling public opinion on prominent national issues and the overall mood of the country.
