Riverside County Confirms Two More Measles Cases, Declares Localized Outbreak

Riverside County health officials have confirmed two additional measles cases in western Riverside County, bringing the total to three and prompting officials to classify the situation as a localized outbreak.

According to Riverside University Health System Public Health, the new cases involve an adult and a child who may be linked to the initial case. Officials say the adult had been vaccinated, while the child had not. Both individuals are currently recovering at home.

Health experts emphasize that measles is highly contagious. The virus spreads through coughing and sneezing and can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.

Residents are urged to review their vaccination records and ensure they are up to date — especially before traveling or attending large public gatherings.

At this time, none of the confirmed cases have been reported in the Coachella Valley.
