Team USA shut out of medals as Yuto Totsuka wins men’s snowboard halfpipe gold in Livigno
The men’s snowboard halfpipe finals wrapped up in Livigno, Italy, with Team USA riders competing in a stacked field but falling short of the podium.
Jake Pates led the American effort, posting a score of 77.50 on his first run in the best-of-three format. He was unable to improve on that mark in his remaining attempts and finished eighth overall.
Alessandro Barbieri also delivered his top performance in his opening run. His score of 75.0 placed him 10th in the final standings.
Chase Josey rounded out the U.S. competitors, earning a score of 70.25 on his second run, which placed him 11th overall.
Japan’s Yuto Totsuka delivered the standout performance of the night. He secured the gold medal with a dominant second run that earned a massive 95.00 score, separating him from the rest of the field and claiming the Olympic title.
Despite strong efforts from Team USA, the Americans were unable to break into medal contention in a highly competitive final.
