Timeline of key developments in the search for missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie
The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her Arizona home in late January, continues to intensify as investigators pursue new leads and release additional evidence.
Guthrie was last seen January 31 after returning home from visiting family. Authorities say she vanished overnight, leaving behind her phone and essential medications. Investigators later confirmed her blood was found at the scene, raising concerns she may have been abducted.
In the days that followed, purported ransom notes demanding millions of dollars surfaced and were sent to media outlets. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, launched a joint investigation and offered a reward for information leading to her recovery.
Her children, including television host Savannah Guthrie, have made emotional public pleas for her safe return while urging anyone with information to come forward.
Investigators released surveillance images showing a masked individual armed and tampering with a doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home around the time she disappeared. Authorities later detained and questioned a man in southern Arizona, but he was released without charges after several hours of questioning.
Search efforts have included extensive evidence collection at Guthrie’s home and surrounding areas, including inspection of property systems and multiple follow-up searches. Officials have also asked neighbors to provide surveillance footage covering several weeks around the time of her disappearance.
The FBI has increased the reward for information to $100,000 and released a description of the individual seen in surveillance footage. Investigators continue to review thousands of tips as the search enters its third week.
Meanwhile, family members and neighbors continue to show support, holding out hope for Guthrie’s safe return as authorities work to piece together what happened.
