TODEC Hosts Valentine's Food Drive Today to Support Immigrant Families Facing Uncertainty

A Valentine's Day-themed donation drive is happening Friday across the Coachella Valley and Inland Empire, aiming to help immigrant families struggling with food shortages and fear amid increased immigration enforcement.

TODEC, a nonprofit legal services organization, is collecting food, hygiene products, and household goods at three locations today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Coachella Valley drop-off site is at their Sixth Street office in Coachella.

"Immigrant families are facing so many different difficulties, whether it's food shortages, job opportunities," said Ismael Cruz, TODEC's Civic Engagement Coordinator. "Especially with all the immigration enforcement that's been happening, a lot of folks have been fearful to sometimes come out of their homes."

Cruz said the organization has watched families get torn apart in recent months, making community support even more critical.

What they're asking for: Staples like corn tortillas, beans, rice, canned chicken, tuna, eggs, cereal, and cooking oil. They're also requesting hygiene products, diapers, baby wipes, and any new household items that could help families.

Where to drop off donations:

The Coachella location is at 1560 Sixth Street. Donations are also being accepted at TODEC offices in Perris (234 South D Street) and Victorville (14335 Hesperia Road).

The drive runs until 5 p.m. today.
