Woman accused of trying to set fire to Kansas City warehouse once proposed for ICE detention site
Authorities are investigating an attempted arson at a warehouse in south Kansas City that had previously been proposed as a potential immigration detention facility.
Video captured at the scene shows a woman igniting areas near the building’s windows, with flames briefly flaring before emergency crews arrived. A reporter on scene said the woman appeared to throw a liquid onto the windows shortly before the fire started.
Grandview firefighters responded quickly, and no injuries were reported.
The property has drawn public attention and protests in recent months after reports suggested it could be sold to the federal government for use as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center. However, the building’s owner, Platform Ventures, said it is no longer moving forward with any sale of the property to the U.S. government.
Kansas City police say no arrests had been made as of Thursday night. Investigators with the Bomb and Arson Team also responded and are continuing to examine what happened.
Officials have not released additional details about the suspect or a possible motive as the investigation remains ongoing.
