Electrical Fire Forces Evacuation of Nearly 300 Guests at Grand Hyatt Indian Wells

An electrical fire at the Grand Hyatt in Indian Wells forced roughly 265 guests—including about 50 children—to evacuate Sunday night, with one person taken to the hospital for a minor injury.

Riverside County firefighters responded to reports of smoke on the hotel's fifth floor just before 8 p.m. When crews arrived at the property on the 44000 block of Indian Wells Lane, they found a fire burning in the floor’s electrical room and called for additional engines.

It took firefighters about an hour to contain the blaze, with the fire under control by 9:03 p.m. Crews stayed on scene overnight to clear smoke from the building.

Out of everyone affected, only one guest required medical attention. That person was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with what officials described as a "minor medical complaint."

Cal Fire says all displaced guests were relocated to other accommodations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
