FDA updates peanut butter recall affecting California over plastic contamination concerns
There’s an important consumer alert this morning involving a peanut butter recall that now affects California.
The Food and Drug Administration has updated an existing recall covering more than 22,000 single-serve peanut butter products distributed across 40 states. The recalled items include individual peanut butter packets as well as small cups that contain both peanut butter and jelly.
According to the FDA, the products were manufactured by Ventura Foods and sold primarily to distributors under private label brands, meaning they may appear under different store or institutional labels.
The recall was issued after pieces of blue plastic were discovered in a filter at the facility where the products were made. Officials say the contamination risk prompted the expanded recall as a precaution to protect consumers.
Anyone who may have purchased single-serve peanut butter or peanut butter and jelly products is urged to check packaging information and contact the place of purchase for guidance. Consumers should not eat any product that may be affected by the recall.
