Modernism Week Highlights Ocotillo Lodge with Tours and Preservation Talks

As part of Modernism Week, visitors gathered at the historic Ocotillo Lodge in Palm Springs for a special talk and tour celebrating midcentury design. Guests convened in the Candlewood Room to hear about the lodge’s rich history, rumored celebrity visitors, and ongoing preservation efforts.

The event featured an exhibit highlighting Chrysler’s architectural influence in the region and included guided tours of five distinctive units, including a rare two-story residence once used by the Alexander family. Attendees also explored the iconic grounds designed by Garrett Eckbo, which includes the lodge’s signature keyhole-shaped pool. Proceeds from the event support continued restoration of the historic property.

HOA leaders described the lodge as a place with a unique, welcoming atmosphere, noting that residents often gather at the outdoor bar for community events and cocktail hours. “It’s just this wonderful easygoing vibe…My wife describes it as magical, and she’s right,” one official said.

Modernism Week continues to offer opportunities for the public to explore iconic homes and buildings across Palm Springs. Visitors can view schedules and tour options on the official website, modernismweek.com, allowing enthusiasts to experience the city’s celebrated midcentury architecture firsthand.
