Former Palm Springs Mayor Lisa Middleton to be honored at Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards benefiting DAP Health

One of the Coachella Valley’s largest annual fundraising events returns this weekend, as the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards honor community leaders while raising vital support for DAP Health.

This year’s Community Service Award will be presented to former Palm Springs Mayor Lisa Middleton, recognized for her leadership and impact during some of the city’s most significant years of growth and change.

Middleton was first elected to the Palm Springs City Council in 2017 and later made history as the first openly transgender mayor in California. She says being a trailblazer carried an important responsibility — to lead by example and demonstrate that public service is about delivering results for the community.

In an interview with NBC Palm Springs’ Mary Strong, Middleton reflected on the significance of that role, saying she hoped other local leaders would see her work and recognize that effective leadership is about serving people and improving their communities.

The Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards raise funds to support DAP Health’s healthcare and support services across the region. Organizers say the event celebrates both community impact and the spirit of giving that defines the Coachella Valley.

The event takes place Saturday, with tickets available through the DAP Health website.
