Fresh Snow, Winter Games Events Draw Crowds to Big Bear

With fresh snow on the ground and clear blue skies overhead, conditions are ideal at Big Bear Mountain Resort.

Resort officials say visitors can expect sunshine and strong snow coverage across the mountain, thanks in large part to extensive snowmaking efforts during one of the driest winters in the West. Crews at Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, and Snow Valley have maintained base depths of roughly two to four feet on open trails.

Over the next three weeks, the resort is also hosting Winter Games watch parties, food and drink specials, concerts, and special events. Organizers say there’s no admission required for guests who simply want to enjoy the atmosphere, catch competitions, or gather with friends.

The resort has welcomed elite athletes in the past, including Olympic gold medalists like Shaun White and Chloe Kim, adding to its reputation as a premier winter sports destination.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors can take lessons, rent equipment, go tubing, or simply relax at on-site restaurants and viewing areas.

Officials recommend checking road conditions before heading up, but say it’s a perfect time to enjoy everything Big Bear has to offer.
