New Jersey man builds snow ice cream truck fundraiser raising thousands for children’s hospital
A New Jersey man is turning snow into smiles — and donations — with a life-size ice cream truck made almost entirely out of snow.
Robert Schott built the detailed Good Humor truck on his front lawn in Cranford, crafting a nearly full-scale replica complete with headlights, rims, and even a seat where visitors can sit and enjoy a treat. The design is modeled after a classic 1953 Chevy and features a playful license plate reading “OHSOGOOD.”
But the snowy creation is more than just eye-catching — it is helping raise money for a meaningful cause. Schott is selling ice cream from the truck, with all proceeds benefiting the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation in nearby Mountainside.
The charity holds special meaning for Schott and his family. A close friend received care there, and his father, Joseph Schott — who is nearing his 104th birthday — once volunteered at the hospital, spending time with young patients through science experiments and activities.
The community response has been strong. Neighbors helped organize a grand opening event that drew large crowds, with visitors lining up to see the snow sculpture and support the fundraiser.
Since opening, the snowy ice cream truck has raised more than $5,000 for the foundation. Schott says seeing the joy it brings — especially to children facing serious health challenges — has made the effort especially rewarding.
What began as a creative winter project has become a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a big impact.
