Road closures and traffic alerts across Coachella Valley after rain, construction projects, and upcoming BNP Paribas Open
Recent rain and ongoing construction are creating several traffic impacts across the Coachella Valley, with more congestion expected as a major tennis tournament approaches.
In Palm Springs, North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash is currently closed due to flooding. Other roadways in the wash area between Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs remain open for now, but conditions could change throughout the week depending on weather and water levels. Officials say updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
In Indio, improvement work continues at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard near Interstate 10. Lane closures remain in place, and drivers are encouraged to avoid the intersection during the week if possible. Monroe Street and Washington Street are recommended alternate routes for freeway access. The project is expected to wrap up by March, just ahead of the busy festival season.
In La Quinta, a repaving project is underway on Adams Street from Miles Avenue to Corporate Center. Drivers should expect delays near La Quinta High School, particularly around Blackhawk Way. Alternate routes include Dune Palms Road or Washington Street.
Looking ahead, traffic is also expected to increase significantly beginning March 1 as the BNP Paribas Open returns to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Drivers should plan for heavy congestion near the Highway 111 and Washington Street corridor.
