Sheriff Clears Savannah Guthrie's Siblings as Suspects in Mother's Disappearance

The Pima County Sheriff's Office has cleared Nancy Guthrie's family members—including her children and their spouses—as possible suspects in her disappearance, now entering its 17th day.

Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed speculation about the family in a statement Monday, saying they are "victims in this case."

"To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel," Nanos said.

The statement appears aimed at quieting online theories that have swirled since the 84-year-old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her Tucson home in the early morning hours of February 1st.

With family members ruled out, detectives are zeroing in on DNA evidence collected from Guthrie's property. Investigators say that the DNA belongs to someone other than Guthrie or those close to her, though who it belongs to remains unknown at this time. They're also trying to match that DNA to a glove found about two miles from her home that looks similar to one worn by a person caught on camera at Guthrie's front door.

The neighborhood around her house remains an active crime scene, with deputies fanning out for several miles and testing dozens of pieces of potential evidence.
