Olympic Village runs low on condoms as Valentine’s Day celebrations ramp up

The Olympic Village is running low on condoms as Valentine’s Day celebrations ramp up among athletes.
A spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee says the increased demand comes as the holiday is “in full swing,” prompting officials to move quickly to replenish supplies. The IOC says more condoms are on the way to ensure athletes continue to have access throughout the Games.
Providing free condoms in the Olympic Village has long been a tradition, aimed at promoting safe practices among competitors from around the world. The initiative is also part of broader health and wellness efforts that support athletes during their time at the Games.
This year, organizers say they initially stocked about 10,000 condoms for approximately 2,800 athletes staying in the Olympic Village. With demand outpacing expectations, officials say restocking efforts are already underway.
The distribution of condoms has been a recognizable part of Olympic culture for decades, often drawing attention during both Summer and Winter Games. Organizers say the goal remains the same each year — to promote health, safety and responsible behavior among athletes.
