San Diego crews clear fallen trees after powerful storm as another system approaches

Cleanup efforts are underway across San Diego after powerful winds and heavy rain brought down trees and debris throughout the city.

Officials say crews have responded to dozens of tree-related calls, with multiple confirmed fallen trees reported in neighborhoods across the region. One of the most talked-about incidents involved a large Torrey Pine that toppled in Pacific Beach. Crews carefully removed the roughly 30-foot tree piece by piece, working around a parked vehicle that blocked full access to the trunk.

City officials say clearing fallen trees quickly is critical to keep roads safe and ensure emergency responders can reach people who need help. Downed trees must be removed whether they land on public or private property.

Foresters say saturated soil and strong winds created especially dangerous conditions for taller, mature trees. In some cases, residents had previously reported trees leaning before the storm, and those reports are now being reviewed as part of ongoing evaluations.

Crews are continuing to respond to tree-removal requests across multiple neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to report hazardous or damaged trees so arborists can inspect and address them, often within one to two days.

The storm’s impact extended beyond fallen trees. Lightning strikes overnight near Escondido ignited about 100 palm trees, sparking a fire that burned roughly an acre before firefighters and rainfall helped contain it.

With another storm system expected to move into the region, officials warn additional damage is possible and urge residents to stay alert.
