Team USA Adds Two More Medals at Milan Winter Games
Team USA picked up two more medals at the Winter Games in Milan on Wednesday, with snowboarder Mac Forehand flipping his way to silver in the Big Air Finals and the American speed skating trio matching the country's best-ever finish in team pursuit with a silver medal.
Forehand landed a triple cork 2160 on his final jump to claim the podium spot. "I couldn't have done anything better than that. It's like as hard as I could have gone," he said after the event. "It doesn't feel real still. It won't feel real for the next week, so time to celebrate."
On the ice, figure skater Alysa Liu sits in third place after a strong short program in women's singles, with the final free skate scheduled for Thursday. Her teammates Isabeau Levito and Amber Glenn are in eighth and 13th place, respectively.
Liu, who retired at 16 after finishing sixth at the Beijing Olympics, returned to competitive skating two and a half years ago. This time around, she said she's cherishing the Olympic experience. "I think the emotions really got to me, because my siblings are out there, my family, and like, my best friend," Liu said. "I'm really happy, and I'm excited to do the free."
The men's hockey team faces Sweden later today in a quarterfinals matchup as they look to stay alive in the medal round.
