U.S. Men's Hockey Beats Sweden in Overtime

Team USA is headed to the semifinals after scoring at the three and a half minute mark of overtime. The Americans will face Slovakia on Friday.

Closer to home, Coachella Valley Firebirds forward David Goyette will serve a 20 game suspension after testing positive for performance enhancing substances. In a statement posted to his personal X account, the 21 year old said he did not knowingly use a banned substance but accepts responsibility and the league’s decision. He is eligible to return April 20. The Firebirds also signed defenseman Drake Bergen to a professional tryout. He has appeared in 48 games this season with the Kansas City Mavericks and will not play tonight as the Birds take on the Bakersfield Condors, who sit two points ahead of them in the Pacific Division. Puck drop is set for 6:30.

In golf, the final round of The Prestige Collegiate Invitational was canceled due to high winds. Stanford claimed the team title, Oregon’s Aidan Kraft won the individual championship, and Desert Sun journalist Larry Bohannan was honored with the Prestige Media Legacy Award at PGA West.
