CHP Helicopter Airlifts Hiker After Medical Emergency on Ladder Canyon Trail Near Mecca
Firefighters carried out a remote rescue this afternoon near Mecca after a hiker suffered a medical emergency along a popular desert trail.
Emergency crews responded just before 1 p.m. to Ladder Canyon Trail following reports of a hiker in distress. Due to the rugged terrain and limited ground access in the area, a California Highway Patrol helicopter was called in to assist with the rescue.
The helicopter crew located the patient and airlifted them from the remote trail to a nearby landing zone. There, the hiker was transferred to a waiting ground ambulance for further medical care.
Officials say the patient was then transported to a local hospital. No additional details about the hiker’s condition have been released.
Rescuers often rely on aerial support in remote desert areas where terrain can make traditional ground rescues difficult and time-consuming.
