Modernism Week Wraps Up in Palm Springs After Generating Major Economic Boost for Local Businesses
Modernism Week in Palm Springs is wrapping up after another successful year, bringing thousands of visitors to the Coachella Valley and delivering a major boost to the local economy.
The annual celebration of midcentury architecture and design has become a signature event for Palm Springs, attracting enthusiasts from across the country and around the world. Organizers say the event now generates more than $60 million in economic impact for the region.
Event publicist Bob Bogart says attendees are eager to spend money throughout the community — from guided architecture tours and special events to books, souvenirs, and dining experiences.
Visitors fill local hotels, restaurants, and shops, creating a surge in business activity. Downtown retailers say the impact is especially noticeable during the event.
Kelly Segre, owner of a coffee and record shop near the Palm Springs Convention Center, says sales nearly doubled during Modernism Week. Customers purchased everything from specialty drinks to vintage records, helping businesses recover from slower periods.
Organizers say the enthusiasm surrounding the event continues to grow each year, and with a second Modernism Week planned for the fall, economic totals could surpass previous records.
The celebration of design has become more than a cultural tradition — it is now a powerful economic driver for Palm Springs and the surrounding communities.
