Palm Springs International Airport Launches Biometric eGates to Speed Up Security Screening
Security screening is getting a high-tech upgrade at Palm Springs International Airport.
The airport has officially rolled out biometric eGates, a new system designed to speed up the identity verification process for travelers. The automated technology allows eligible passengers to confirm their identity in just seconds and move directly to physical screening without stopping at the traditional TSA podium.
Palm Springs becomes the fifth airport in California to introduce the system, joining other major travel hubs already using the technology. Nationwide, biometric eGates are now operating at dozens of airports as part of a broader effort to modernize security checkpoints and reduce wait times.
Airport officials say the upgrade is intended to improve efficiency — especially during peak travel seasons when Palm Springs sees a surge of visitors. By streamlining identity checks, the system helps reduce congestion and keeps passengers moving more smoothly through security.
The expansion also comes as travel demand is expected to rise significantly, with major international events and celebrations bringing millions of visitors to the United States in the coming years.
