Pet of the Week: Bitsy Is Ready to Steal Your Heart
It’s time for Pet of the Week, and this little bundle of fluff is already camera-ready.
Valerie Kattz from Animal Samaritans stopped by with Bitsy, a three-month-old Chihuahua-Terrier mix who wasted no time charming everyone in the studio. With her soft coat and playful personality, Bitsy even paused to “do her hair” for the cameras — fluffing up her fur like a seasoned TV star.
Bitsy recently had her spay surgery and is now ready to find her forever home. She came into the shelter with her sister, Pebbles, who looks nearly identical except for a little extra white on her face. While not much is known about their backstory, both puppies are healthy, happy, and eager for loving families.
As adorable as puppies are, Kattz reminds potential adopters that they require time, patience, and training. “They’re like babies,” she explained. Teething, for example, can mean chewed shoes if proper training and supervision aren’t in place. But with consistency and care, puppies like Bitsy grow into wonderful companions.
Though her exact breed mix may include a bit more than Chihuahua and Terrier — perhaps even a touch of Border Collie — Bitsy is expected to remain on the smaller side. What’s certain is her joyful spirit. She’s energetic, a little goofy, and loves to make people laugh.
The shelter, however, is currently at capacity and caring for many deserving animals.
Among them are Wiggle, a 10-year-old schnauzer, and Giggle, a 5-year-old poodle mix. The bonded pair came to the shelter after their owner passed away unexpectedly. Both dogs were severely matted when they arrived — an uncomfortable and painful condition. Thanks to the help of local grooming partners, they’ve been trimmed, cleaned up, and given veterinary care. Now, they look like little show dogs and are much more comfortable.
Animal Samaritans hopes to adopt Wiggle and Giggle together, as the two are closely bonded and provide comfort to one another.
To support animals like Bitsy, Wiggle, and Giggle, the shelter is hosting its seventh annual “Have a Heart for Homeless” fundraiser throughout February. Supporters can send Valentine’s cards to shelter pets or make donations to help cover grooming, medical care, and daily needs. Every contribution helps provide a second chance for animals waiting for loving homes.
If you’re ready to add a little joy — and maybe a little puppy mischief — to your life, Bitsy might be the perfect fit. Visit Animal Samaritans to meet her and the many other pets waiting for their forever families.
After all, sometimes the smallest paws leave the biggest prints on your heart.
