USA Women's Hockey Wins Gold in Overtime Instant Classic
The United States women’s hockey team capped one of the most dominant runs in Olympic history with a 2-1 overtime win over Canada to claim gold in Milan. Team USA entered the showdown 6-0, outscoring opponents 31-1 with five straight shutouts and a record 331 minute, 23 second shutout streak — the longest in Olympic hockey history. After trailing 1-0 late, captain Hilary Knight tied the game with her record 15th Olympic goal, forcing sudden death overtime. In 3-on-3 play, Megan Keller buried the game winner off a feed from Taylor Heise, sealing another chapter in the storied USA-Canada rivalry and sending Team USA into celebration.
