Veteran Shot While Protecting Friend in Richmond Bar Still Seeks Answers Nearly One Year Later

Nearly a year after being shot while trying to protect a friend during a violent bar incident, a military veteran is still searching for justice — and asking the public for help.

The shooting happened February 23, 2025, at the Davine Bar and Grill on Hull Street in South Richmond. The veteran, who has chosen to remain anonymous for safety reasons, was shot twice in the neck after stepping in to defend a friend who was being attacked.

He described hearing a loud bang before seeing his friend injured and moving in to help. Moments later, he was shot. While waiting for emergency responders, he used his thumb to apply pressure to his neck wound in an effort to survive.

The attack left him with life-altering injuries and significant medical bills. His recovery has been long and difficult, both physically and emotionally. Unable to work in his current condition, he now relies on limited disability income while facing mounting healthcare costs.

Safety concerns have also forced him to relocate to a homeless veterans facility in another state. Nearly one year later, no suspect has been arrested, and investigators continue to search for new evidence.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, the veteran is making a public plea for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have photos or video from that night to come forward — even anonymously.

Friends say he risked his life to protect someone else and deserves justice. For now, he says he is left waiting and hoping someone will provide the information needed to move the case forward.
