Inside Los Angeles’ Figueroa Corridor: A Closer Look at Human Trafficking Concerns in Plain Sight

A stretch of South Los Angeles known as the Figueroa Corridor has long been recognized by law enforcement and advocates as a major hub for prostitution and human trafficking activity.
The four-mile section of Figueroa Street, running from Gage Avenue to Imperial Highway, sits near major landmarks including Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center. But investigators say much of what happens there is far removed from the city’s tourist image.
Often referred to as “the Blade,” the corridor is known for visible street-level prostitution that occurs day and night. Law enforcement officials and nonprofit advocates say the area has become one of the most active trafficking zones in California, fueled by steady demand and limited enforcement resources.
Vice investigators patrol the area, conducting stops and checking ages to identify minors. When underage individuals are found, they are transferred to child welfare services. Adults are often released, as enforcement priorities have shifted in recent years.
Police say the focus today is less on arresting those selling sex and more on connecting potential victims with services and support to help them leave exploitative situations. Investigators and survivors alike say violence in the area can be severe, coming from traffickers, buyers, and others operating nearby.
Authorities say traffickers may pressure individuals to meet nightly earning targets, sometimes hundreds or even more than a thousand dollars. Advocates warn that minors and vulnerable individuals are especially at risk of being recruited and exploited.
Officials continue to raise concerns about resources needed to address the issue, emphasizing prevention, outreach, and victim support as key strategies moving forward.
