Know Before You Go: Four Major Traffic Impacts This Week in the Coachella Valley

Four construction projects are impacting Coachella Valley roads this week, from ongoing lane closures in Indio to a major traffic shift coming to Palm Springs. Here's what you need to know to plan your commute, according to Kris Gunterson, program manager for CV Sync, a CVAG program.

Indio and La Quinta projects continue

Crews are working on Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard in Indio through the end of March, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction. The project moved forward over the weekend and should wrap up before festival season, Gunterson says. Use Monroe or Washington Street for north-south travel and Fred Waring or Highway 111 for east-west routes.

In La Quinta, paving work starts this week on Adams Street between Adams and Fred Waring. Crews will tackle outside lanes first, then move to inside lanes through the end of February. Expect congestion at Fred Waring and Adams—use Dune Palms Road or Highway 111 as alternates.

Tennis tournament traffic returns March 1

The Indian Wells tennis tournament runs March 1-15, and that means the usual crunch on southbound Washington Street and Highway 111 at Miles Avenue. Traffic builds around 9:30 am when gates open at 10 am, then hits again between 4:30-6 pm when day sessions end and night sessions begin. Stay in outside lanes on Highway 111 and the inside lane on Washington Street, or avoid the area entirely during peak times.

Palm Springs bridge reaches milestone

Weather permitting, crews will swap traffic to the west side of the South Palm Canyon Bridge this Wednesday, February 25th. The city says they're ready to start construction on the east side—a major milestone for the long-running project. Expect changes in traffic control as crews make the switch. Use Sunny Dunes or Mesquite to Ballardo Road as alternate routes.
