Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Inside the Revivals Lounge: Community Support Fuels DAP Health Mission
The 32nd annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards continues tonight at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where supporters are gathering to celebrate compassion, healthcare, and community impact across the Coachella Valley.
Reporting from inside the Revivals Lounge, NBC Palm Springs’ Thalia Hayden spoke with David Brinkman about why the event is especially meaningful this year for DAP Health.
Brinkman says recent policy changes mean thousands of patients have lost or could lose health insurance coverage — making community support more critical than ever. He says the strong turnout reflects the Valley’s commitment to ensuring residents continue to receive essential care.
More than 1,000 attendees filled the sold-out event, demonstrating what organizers call a powerful show of unity. Brinkman says moments like this echo the organization’s founding decades ago, when community members came together to ensure healthcare remained accessible to all.
He also emphasized the values driving the evening — empathy, inclusion, and the belief that healthcare is a human right. Those shared principles, he says, continue to shape both the event and the region it serves.
Beyond the mission, the celebration also embraces style and entertainment. This year’s Motown theme has filled the venue with music, sequins, and high-energy excitement, with live performances adding to the festive atmosphere.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
