Trial Readiness Conference Delayed for Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez
A key court hearing for Steven Hernandez is facing delays this morning as legal teams continue working behind the scenes.
The trial readiness conference, an important step before a case moves to trial, was scheduled to begin earlier today, but hours later, the case had still not been called inside the Larson Justice Center courtroom in Indio.
During that time, both the defense and prosecution have been engaged in ongoing discussions. At one point, attorneys from both sides told the judge during a sidebar that they are still actively working on the case and requested additional time.
A trial readiness conference is designed to ensure all evidence has been exchanged, witnesses are prepared, and any final plea negotiations can take place before trial proceedings begin.
Hernandez is currently facing nine criminal counts, including one felony count of conflict of interest, along with additional perjury-related charges.
It remains unclear whether the case will proceed to trial or if a resolution could be reached beforehand. Officials say updates will be provided as new developments emerge.
