Palm Desert Residents Can Vote on New Sculpture for San Pablo Roundabout

Palm Desert is letting residents decide which sculpture will be installed at the San Pablo Avenue roundabout near the east entrance of College of the Desert.
After numerous review sessions, the Cultural Arts Committee has tightened the selection down to two pieces: an untitled work by DeWitt Godfrey and “Cactus Blossom” by Gordon Huether.
The sculpture will sit at the roundabout adjacent to the Civic Center, close to the dog park, YMCA, and Community Center. Residents can view renderings of both options and cast their vote at engagepalmdesert.com/art.
The city envisions the sculpture as a "vibrant focal point" in what officials call Palm Desert's emerging city center. San Pablo Avenue connects commercial areas with residential neighborhoods and runs past College of the Desert and City Hall. In recent years, the city added bike lanes, pocket parks, community gardens, and outdoor dining along the mile-long stretch.
