Palm Springs Planning Commission Approves Permit to Rebuild American Reproductive Center After Bombing

In a unanimous vote, the Palm Springs Planning Commission has approved a permit allowing the American Reproductive Center to rebuild its IVF clinic, which was destroyed in a bombing last year.

The decision marks a major milestone in restoring the medical facility to its original location. The new project will replace the clinic’s former four-building layout with a single two-story structure designed to house advanced, state-of-the-art equipment.

Medical director Dr. Meher Abdallah says the rebuild represents a significant investment not only in the facility, but in patients and the future of reproductive care in the community. He emphasized the project will not cut corners, calling it an expensive but meaningful step forward.

Since the bombing, the clinic has been operating temporarily out of Desert Regional Medical Center. Dr. Abdallah says returning to a permanent home is a priority, describing the temporary arrangement as feeling like living in a hotel while waiting to go home.

City leaders say redeveloping the site is also important for Palm Springs as a whole. Planning officials say rebuilding the clinic helps address one of the last visible impacts of the attack that deeply affected the community.

While the permit approval moves the project forward, additional design approvals are still required before construction begins. If everything proceeds as planned, Dr. Abdallah says the goal is to reopen the new facility by December 31.
