Trump Touts Economic Gains and Immigration Crackdown at State of the Union Amid Partisan Divides

President Donald Trump told Congress Tuesday night that "our nation is back" and declared his administration has delivered gains on the economy and immigration enforcement, though recent polling shows more than half of Americans believe he's failing on those very issues.

The address, delivered in the second year of Trump's second term, highlighted deep divisions between the two parties. When Trump touted a stronger economy, he blamed Democrats for inflation, saying "they caused and created the increased prices that all of our citizens had to endure. You caused that problem."

Trump also defended his tariff policies directly in front of Supreme Court justices who recently ruled to limit his ability to levy them. "The good news is that almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that they already made," Trump said.

On foreign policy, the president promised he would not allow Iran to pursue a nuclear weapon, calling the country "the world's number one sponsor of terror."

Immigration drew some of the sharpest exchanges of the night. Trump accused Democrats of supporting sanctuary cities and blocking deportations. Several Democrats boycotted the speech entirely, while others shouted in protest during those remarks.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger delivered the Democratic response, countering Trump's claims. She also questioned who benefits most from Trump's policies, calling "the scale of the corruption unprecedented."
