Apartment Fire Displaces 12 in Desert Hot Springs

Firefighters from multiple agencies battled a two-story apartment fire in Desert Hot Springs that broke out late Wednesday night and burned into the early hours of Thursday morning.
The Riverside County Fire Department received reports of the fire in the 11500 block of Ocotillo Road around 11:30 PM. First responders arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from a unit on the second floor of the multi-family complex.
Crews called in a second alarm and brought in the Palm Springs Fire Department to assist. Firefighters knocked down the flames by 1:14 AM and contained the fire to a single second-floor apartment.
No one was injured, but the fire displaced 12 people: six adults and six children. The Red Cross is helping them find temporary housing.
The Desert Hot Springs Police Department and Southern California Edison also responded to the scene. Ocotillo Road was closed between 4th Street and 2nd Street while crews performed overhaul operations.
