Firebirds Host Henderson Silver Knights as Team Prepares for Cancer Awareness Night

It may be hot outside, but it’s ice cold inside Acrisure Arena where the Coachella Valley Firebirds are facing off against the Henderson Silver Knights.

While two points in the standings are on the line in a tightly contested Pacific Division matchup, tonight’s game also carries special meaning off the ice.

Earlier this week, Firebirds players visited the Lucy Curci Cancer Center on Eisenhower Health’s campus to tour the facility and spend time with patients. Among them was season ticket member Rich Nolan, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage four pancreatic cancer. Nolan recently completed his eighth round of chemotherapy.

The team surprised Nolan during treatment with a signed stick and will honor him Saturday night during “Hockey Fights Cancer” Night when the Firebirds take on the Bakersfield Condors.

Nolan shared how much the team means to him and the community, saying bringing professional hockey to the Coachella Valley has given fans something to rally around and look forward to.
